Imperial Officers at Tournament of Roses Parade
« Thread started on: Nov 1st, 2006, 10:35am » |

Just wanted to let my fellow Corps members know that the officers will be well-represented during the Rose Parade on January 1, 2007.
Many in the Southern California area have been called to duty as "drill masters" to the 'troopers. LFL is even making outfits for a lucky few they have asked to attend.
Unfortunately they only want black uniforms so I'm out of the running on this one (which is okay because I'm working with the Rebels for the event ).

What How did this happen? I was so upset about the trooper armor only, and now they want officers?!
And let me move this since I don't think it's public information yet...

I'm also curious as to how this came about--do share! The first I heard of it was an email I received today from a 501st member who has been selected to march, but doesn't have his own uniform (he asked if I would be willing to make it on commission--wonder if he knows LFL is making them?).

I found out only those who were in the videos were asked to do officers. It kind of burns my butt since officers were never asked to participate in the video shoot.
Oh well, typical LucasFilm.
Right now there is a call out for other Star Wars characters like TIE pilots, tuskens, X-Wing pilots, Jedi, bounty hunters, etc. Mark Fordham posted the notice in the Legion HQ forum. Pictures need to be submitted to Mary Franklin by this Wednesday, November 15th.
Another bummer for me was that I was organizing a group Endor Trooper project to submit for the parade but we won't be done until December 1st. We were so close but Mary won't extend the deadline.
Ah well, you'll see us at C4 anyways.

I did participate in one of our Garrison's marching videos as a stormtrooper. LFL has personally requested my attendance as an Imperial Officer for for the Rose Parade. This was a huge surprise to me, because the other Members (white armor) of our Garrison were informed that they would be participating 2 weeks before they let me know. Of course, I would be wearing my own uniform for the parade. I am also hoping to make myself a second uniform. I would wear one on the plane --- just in case my luggage gets lost. Last fall, 2 of our Garrison Mmeber's armor was lost on the way to the Battlefront II premiere event in NYC. Their armor was later located and returned, but not in time to participate in any of the costuming events. One of the same fellows had his armor lost on the way back too! (It was later found)

FYI -- what "Imperpial" uniforms LFL is making / providing for participants is not like anything we would make. I understand that they will be simplifications of the "Imperial look."

Yes, it's a simplistic Imperial Officer-style outfit. We have a couple of people in the Southern California Garrison who are getting them. But it's a loan only, they have to be returned to LFL after the parade.
If they had said anything about wanting officers I would have submitted, but since it was based on participating in the video I was automatically excluded.

Well I made my marching video with snowtrooper costume and later LFL stated I could participate as snowie or TK. Choosed the TK as it will be easier to pack than snowie with huge helmet and backpacket. They never told me that I could appear as Officer. Nevermind, I also didn't know they are accepting also imp officers. Though that parade will be all white costumes.

Congrats, Kathy! I can't think of a better representative of the IOC to have been selected for the parade.
In answer to the later call for "soft" costumes, I submitted three, including my officer on the off-chance they were still selecting. None of them were selected, but I figured it was a long shot anyway; Orlando to LA is an expensive ticket, and there is no shortage of well-outfitted fans in SoCal!
As for none of us knowing that officers might be included... For all we know, soft costumes were a later addition to the game plan. I lost nothing, and I'll be watching enthusiastically and recording the parade on dvd!

....I submitted my Officer during the "second chance" ......along with all my other costumes....and...well...I didn't make it....
To say I was disappointed is an understatement...but the left half of my brain knew the chances were so slim in the first place that even R2 could not calculate them...but...still....there was always that small chance...
Who knows what the future will bring....I am sure that if someone had told you a couple years ago that the 501st, Rebel Legion and Jedi Assembly would be marching for Lucasfilm in the Rose Parade you would have thought them nuts... so... who knows what is down the road?

Now that the date of the event is getting a lot closer, it's becoming very apparent to me that the Legion Members who will be marching as Imperial Officers (or marching in Imperial-like uniforms) were NOT selected to do so on the merits of their costumes. Not all of those Members owned Imperial Officers uniforms prior to being informed of their participation in the parade. LFL would provide the Imperial-styled uniforms for those who did not have a uniform. About 9 of those who are going to be marching as Imperial Officers are experienced in drill and will be training the marchers. From what I know, the other "Imperial Officers" will have other specific 'duties' to perform through out the time we are in Pasadena and for the parade too. Whether or not any of those Members selected for these duties owned an Officer's uniform was not the criteria LFL used for those selections.
When I finally find out what this is really all about, I'll definitely post (if I am able)

Well....one thing is for certain.....Kathy....you make a nicer looking hat than the ones that Grambling had....
The Officers looked really "spiffy" and am certainly glad they were included....

I was there as a trooper and it was worth every minute!! The Officers that were used did have slightly better uniforms that Grambling, thats for sure.

I'm the trooper to right, behind the pilot. My brother is the awesome Darth Maul.

I think you over estimate their chances...
