Rank Bar Buttons

Here's a source for the rank bar buttons.
www.newark.com
The PN in parenthesis is the Newark PN.
I don't believe there is a minimum order quantity.
I purchased 4 blue and 2 yellow with no problems.
Blue (PN# 50B3012)
Red (PN# 50B3010)
Yellow (PN# 96B8821)

I just wanted to thank you for the info you provided. I have been trying really hard on making my Imperial Officers uniform. I don't think I would have ever been able to find these covers with out your help.P

I use the same ones, and they work perfectly. Now if I could just find my d**n rank badge, maybe I can take a picture of it......

Oh, here we go:

I just snapped off the two white plastic clips and then used E3000 adhesive to glue the buttons to the aluminum blank (which I admit, I cut terribly uneven).

Thanks! I also used the E3000 to glue a bar-pin thingie (bag of them from Michael's when I only needed one....) to the back. When I had it on, nobody noticed that terrible bottom edge there, so at least I had that going for me

Thanks a bunch for the information. I went ahead and ordered some of these buttons and ran into a snag. The Yellow buttons are opaque from this vendor (Newark.com, pt. #Yellow (PN# 96B8821)). The Red and Blue are clear and look great but the Yellow is a solid and even the color is more like a canary color. I've been researching to find a button of the same proportions that is Yellow and clear to match up. I spoke with Vince Sanchez (Corellian Exports) over on the main Legion forums. I'm waiting for him to verify things but I think I found where to get the correct Yellow buttons from. The one I found was from Omron:
http://www.omron247.com/Industrial-Automation/Store/OmronFamilyView_10051_10051_-1_12652?WT.svl=3
The part # is: A16ZJ-5001Y
There is also a company called Digikey.com that I looked into...They offer the same part # as well.

Well, I just got my Orange buttons from Omron and they aren't the right size. No biggie, I only spent a few bucks...It looks like you have to get all your lens covers from the same vendor if you want them to work out and match.

What type of aluminum blank did you use for the back? Is it a belt buckle blank? Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere.

Well, first, it'd be nice if you introduced yourself before you dove straight in. *heh*
But anything of the right thickness that you're comfortable working with can serve, be it metal cut to size or plastic cut and painted. There are also some folks in and around the 501st who make them, if you don't want to. You can easily find sheet plastic or aluminum online. And there are some threads on here from people who make the plaques. Not sure how useful the search function is for finding them, though...

The aluminum was just from a small sheet from Lowe's. I had to cut it myself, and I don't have one of those giant metal-cutting guillotines so that's why the cut is crooked in mine

Aluminum is soft enough... Measure and mark, and then use a straight-edge as a guide, scrap wood under, and an xacto knife to score the edges. Personally I'd use a rotary tool with a cutoff wheel and get it pretty durn straight that way, then a sanding block to smoothe it off.

Aluminum would be ideal but the only reason I may not use it is because if you want to make your rank badge with a magnetic backing, it will not work with an aluminum plate...
